Our hot water tank went down this morning and we were at a loss. I called Sargent's plumbing and Andrew Sargent took my call. He had Jeffrey Sargent come to our house in a very short matter of time. Jeffrey installed a new hot water tank and you could tell that he really takes pride in his workmanship. Totally satisfied with the quick response and a job well done. Follow up, I had a slight drain problem from the install but Sargent's plumbing responded immediately and took care of it. Great company, with great service.
Sargents plumbing did a great job for us! They returned our service call immediately on a Sunday and came out to our home the following day at the exact time they said they would. The clogged drain was cleared immediately!!! Sargents plumbing staff is very professional and informative. Great service!!
I had the best experience with Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain I’ve ever had with someone in my home, beyond plumbing only. They came when they said they would. Came back to address concerns and make sure everything was right. Took care of our house and cleaned up after themselves. Andrew provided expertise as a plumber and exceptional customer service. Highly recommended!
Rather than charge for a service call, the owner walked me through how to fix my garbage disposal. Wow! Guess who is now in my contacts should I ever need a plumber again.

Great job installing new toilet and vanity. Timely and fair pricing. Will definitely use again.
Best plumber I've ever used. His attention to detail is amazing. He cares about the job he is doing, no matter the size. Neat, doesn't leave a mess. Very personal service, nothing like the corporate plumbing companies out there.
They did a great job addressing all of our issues and did it within one hour, which saved us a good amount of money.
Sargent Plumbing got me taken care of with same day service. Jeffrey’s attitude was very pleasant and professional. Will be using them for all my plumbing needs in the future.
They were quick to respond on the weekend and very reasonable on pricing. Highly recommend them!
Very knowledgeable. Arrived within 30 minutes after speaking with them.
Super awesome company! They were fast and super reasonably priced. We had an emergency water pipe bust and they were out same day without charging us an arm and a leg.
Andrew is very professional and fair priced and also makes an effort to connect and care for his customers. I had a pipe bust late one evening and not only did he drop what he was doing to get my home fixed up, he also gave me a more than a reasonable charge (didn’t hit me with a hefty emergency bill). I highly recommend Sargents plumbing for anything you need.
This is the best plumbing company i've ever used and I will be calling them for all of my future plumbing needs. Very professional, fairly priced, and great work. Highly recommend.
Did the job the same day the problem happened. Jeffrey did a great job fixing the problem. If you're looking for a reliable service, I highly recommend them.
Andrew is the best extremely knowledgeable and very helpful . I highly recommend !
Above and beyond on customer service! Fair quotes! Would recommend to anyone!
Bought a house a few months back that had plumbing issues we didn’t know where there. In a panic I searched the web for reputable companies and Sargent’s Plumbing and Drain came out within 30 mins, gave me a free quote and assured they would have it brand new. I can wholeheartedly endorse this amazing company led by a very respectable and knowledgeable young man. If you have ANY plumbing concerns, Sargents should be your first and only call!
We’ve used Sargent’s Plumbing twice and both times they were awesome! The first time was last Christmas Eve afternoon. Our half bath toilet was leaking. They were able to schedule us that day. Hayden arrived on time, assessed the situation, fixed it quickly and didn’t leave a mess. Just recently, the same toilet developed another problem. Called Sargent’s. Jeffrey arrived a little early (not a problem), listened to my concerns and made some adjustments hoping to correct the problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t. He told me it might not; that the toilet should be replaced. Doing that in a couple of days. Quoted a reasonable price for this replacement. He and Andrew have been very patient in answering my questions. Highly recommend!
We have had issues with our sewer backing up into the house for a long time. I was worried when I first called because Sargent’s charges by the hour but wait.. They helped unclog the drain so fast it will make your head spin! Super nice, honest, and much more than fair to say the least. Use Sargent’s once and you won’t let anyone else help with your plumbing. Our issue was a little flap that broke off to keep sewage from back flowing into the home. (Ironic isn’t it that this is exactly what this valve caused several times?!). We couldn’t be happier!
Jeffery was a quick and efficient plumber. He fixed the problem and he did a great job. He has a friendly personality and a hard worker. They get the job done right the first time!
I had a sudden pipe leak from old copper pipes on a weekend. I found Sargents and they came out right away and started working on a fix. They lined up a restoration company that was on the job immediately with machines to dehumidify. I ended up having them re pipe my house and they worked on a Sunday until it was finished. I also had them install a new water heater. Everything was done promptly and professionally. I would highly recommend
They were prompt and very informative. I am female and was never spoken down to (asi have experienced with others). Friendly. I highly recommend
Had a wonderful experience with Sargent's Plumbing! Andrew was very professional, extremely knowledgeable and provided excellent communication throughout the whole project! Great pricing and got us back up and running from our gas leak issue very quickly! Will be using them again in the future!

Garbage Disposal Repair in Broken Arrow, OK
Garbage disposal repair is a service focused on diagnosing and fixing issues with your existing unit. This is often a cost effective alternative to a full replacement. Our repair services cover all common problems, including humming motors, units that will not turn on, and water leaks. Our licensed plumbers are trained to safely work on these electrical appliances. We begin every repair with a thorough inspection to pinpoint the exact cause of the failure. This could be a foreign object jamming the blades, a tripped reset button, or a failed electrical connection. We also check for leaks from worn out seals or loose connections. Our goal is to provide a safe and lasting fix.
Disposals can fail in several common ways. The most frequent issue is a jam, where the unit hums because the blades are stuck. This is often repairable by manually clearing the obstruction. Units that will not turn on at all may have an electrical issue. This could be a tripped breaker, a faulty switch, or a problem with the unit’s internal wiring. Leaks are another major problem; they can come from the sink flange, the dishwasher connection, or the drain pipe. Leaks from the bottom of the unit itself usually indicate a failed internal seal and often require replacement. Loud, unusual grinding noises also signal trouble, likely a broken internal component.
Our repair process at Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain is systematic and safe. First, our plumber will always ensure the power to the unit is disconnected. We then investigate the complaint, starting with the simplest solutions. For a jam, we will use a disposal wrench to manually free the blades from the bottom of the unit. For electrical issues, we will check the reset button, the circuit breaker, and the wall switch. If the unit is leaking, we will tighten loose connections or replace faulty seals and gaskets. We carry common replacement parts on our trucks. Our plumbers work cleanly and respect your home. We always test the repair thoroughly before leaving.
As an honest, locally owned business, we always help you make the best financial decision. We will clearly explain if a repair or a replacement is the smarter choice. If the repair cost is more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is often recommended. Age is a major factor; if your disposal is over 10 years old, it is likely near the end of its service life. Investing in costly repairs for an old unit may not be wise. Major issues like a cracked housing or a failed motor are also signals for replacement. We provide straightforward quotes for both options, allowing you to decide.
A humming motor is the most common garbage disposal repair call we get. This hum means the motor is receiving power but cannot spin. In 90% of cases, this is caused by a jam. A small, hard object like a bottle cap, spoon, or fruit pit is lodged between the blades and the grinder ring. Our plumbers are experts at safely clearing these jams. We use professional tools to dislodge the item without damaging the unit. We then hit the reset button and test the unit. If the unit still hums after the jam is cleared, the motor itself may have seized or failed, which would require a replacement.
Leaks from a garbage disposal should never be ignored. The source of the leak determines the repair. If water is dripping from the top, near the sink flange, the plumber’s putty or seal has failed. We can fix this by remounting the unit with a fresh seal. A leak at the dishwasher or drainpipe connection is usually just a loose clamp or a bad gasket. These are simple and quick repairs for our team. However, a leak from the bottom casing of the disposal is a fatal flaw. This means the internal seals around the motor have failed, and the unit must be replaced to prevent electrical hazards and water damage.
When you call Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain for a repair, you receive our 5 star service guarantee. Our plumbers are licensed and insured. We are a locally owned company built on honesty and hard work. We provide long term warranties on our repairs, giving you confidence in the fix. We also respect your wallet by offering discounts for seniors, teachers, and veterans. What Makes a Great Garbage Disposal Repair Service
A great garbage disposal repair service is defined by honesty and speed. The service begins with a quick diagnosis of the problem. A great plumber will clearly explain the issue to the homeowner. They will present a straightforward quote for the repair. They will also advise if a replacement is a more economical choice. The plumber works safely, always disconnecting power before starting. They use the right tools to clear jams or fix leaks without causing more damage. The service concludes with a full test and a clean work area.
Most Common Garbage Disposal Repair Questions
When your garbage disposal stops working, it can be a major inconvenience. Homeowners naturally have questions about what went wrong and how to fix it. Here are the most common repair questions we answer in Broken Arrow.
A garbage disposal that suddenly stops working, with no hum or sound, is usually an electrical issue. The first thing to check is the red reset button, typically found on the bottom of the unit. This is an overload protector that trips when the motor overheats, often from a jam or overworking. Press this button firmly to see if it resets power. If that does not work, check your home’s main circuit breaker panel. The breaker for the disposal may have tripped, and you just need to flip it back on.
If the reset button and circuit breaker are both fine, the problem might be the wall switch. Electrical switches can wear out and fail over time. Our licensed plumbers can safely test the switch and the wiring leading to the unit. In some cases, the disposal’s motor itself has burned out. This is more common in older units or those that have been frequently jammed. A failed motor is not a repairable part and will require a full replacement.
Another possibility is a loose wire, either inside the unit’s connection box or at the wall switch. Our technicians will safely inspect these connections. At Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain, we trace the problem from the simplest solution to the most complex. We quickly identify the point of failure, whether it is the breaker, the switch, or the unit. We then provide a clear explanation and a quote for the repair.
Yes, in many cases, a simple jam can be fixed without a professional. The most important rule is to first turn off all power to the unit. This means turning off the wall switch and, for total safety, flipping the circuit breaker. Never put your hand or any object down the sink drain. The safe method involves using the tool provided by the manufacturer. Most disposals have a hex-shaped hole on the very bottom of the unit.
You can insert a 1/4 inch Allen wrench (or the specific disposal wrench) into this hole. Rock the wrench back and forth firmly. This manually turns the grinder plates, which will usually dislodge whatever object is stuck. After you feel it break free, remove the wrench. You may also need to press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit. Once these steps are done, turn the breaker back on, run cold water, and test the switch.
If you are not comfortable doing this, or if this method does not work, call a professional. Forcing the unit or using the wrong tools can cause further damage. If the unit still only hums, or if it trips the breaker again, you need a plumber. Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain can handle this repair quickly and safely. We have the right tools and expertise to clear stubborn jams without damaging your appliance.
Leaks from a garbage disposal can originate from several different places. The most common source is the sink flange, which is the connection at the top. This leak means the seal between the disposal and the sink drain has failed. This is often due to improper installation or the vibration of the unit loosening the mounting bolts over time. The plumber’s putty or gasket used to seal it may have dried out. This is a repairable issue.
Another common leak point is the dishwasher connection or the main drain pipe connection. These are on the side and bottom of the unit. A leak here is usually caused by a loose mounting clamp or a deteriorated rubber gasket. This is also a relatively simple fix; our plumbers can tighten the connections or replace the failed gasket. These leaks might only appear when you run the disposal or the dishwasher, so they can be tricky to spot.
The most serious leak is one coming from the bottom of the unit’s main housing. If you see water dripping from the casing itself, it means the internal seals have failed. This allows water from the grinding chamber to get into the motor housing. This is a critical failure that cannot be repaired safely. It poses a significant electrical hazard and requires a full replacement of the garbage disposal.
Foul odors from a garbage disposal are caused by a buildup of trapped food particles and bacteria. Over time, small bits of food get stuck under the splash guard and on the grinding components. This trapped waste begins to decay, creating a strong, unpleasant smell. This problem is very common, especially if the disposal is not rinsed properly after each use. Grease and oil can also coat the inside of the chamber, trapping other food particles.
You can perform regular cleaning to combat this. A simple method is to grind up a handful of ice cubes, which helps scour the inside of the chamber. You can also grind citrus peels, like lemon or orange, to help deodorize the unit. Pouring in a small amount of baking soda followed by vinegar can also help. Let this mixture foam up and sit for several minutes before rinsing with hot water. Regularly cleaning the removable splash guard is also crucial.
If these cleaning methods do not solve the odor, you may have a deeper problem. The smell could be coming from a clog in the P trap or drain line connected to the disposal. This buildup of sludge can release sewer-like gases. Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain can inspect the unit and drain. We can perform a professional cleaning or, if needed, use our jetting service to completely clear the pipes of odor causing blockages.
Loud, metallic, or rattling noises are a clear sign that something is wrong. In most cases, it means a foreign, hard object has fallen into the disposal. This could be a piece of silverware, a bottle cap, a screw, or a rock. The grinding blades are striking this object at high speed, creating the noise. You must stop the disposal immediately to prevent serious damage. Once the unit is off, you may be able to see and retrieve the object with pliers, never your hand.
If the noise is more of a dull, heavy grinding and the unit is vibrating excessively, the internal components may be damaged. The flywheel, which is the plate that spins, could be broken. The blades, which are actually impellers, could be loose or broken. This can happen from old age or from repeatedly grinding very hard items like bones. This type of mechanical failure is internal to the unit.
Continuing to run a disposal that is making these noises is dangerous. It can shatter the grinding components or cause the motor to seize completely. Our professional plumbers can diagnose the source of the noise. We can safely retrieve any foreign objects. If the internal parts are broken, we will likely recommend a replacement. This is because repairing internal grinding components is often not cost effective.
A disposal that repeatedly trips your home’s circuit breaker is signaling an electrical overload. This is a safety feature designed to prevent a fire. The most common cause is a jam. When the blades are stuck, the motor draws an excessive amount of electricity as it tries to turn. This power surge trips the breaker. Clearing the jam, as described earlier, will often resolve this issue.
It can also happen if you are overworking the disposal. Trying to grind too much food waste at one time can strain the motor. This makes it overheat and draw too much power. Always feed food scraps in slowly and with a strong flow of cold water. If the unit trips the breaker even when it is not jammed, it could signal a more serious problem. The motor itself may be failing and developing an electrical short.
This could also be a sign of a problem with your home’s wiring. The circuit may be overloaded with other appliances. Or, the breaker itself could be faulty. Our licensed plumbers can investigate the issue safely. We can determine if the problem is the disposal unit or the home’s electrical system. We will provide a safe and effective solution to stop the overloads.
The lifespan of a garbage disposal depends heavily on its quality, how often it is used, and what you put down it. On average, a standard builder grade disposal will last about 8 to 12 years. Models with more powerful motors and higher quality components, like stainless steel grinders, tend to last longer. Some premium units can last 15 years or more. Proper use is the biggest factor in longevity.
You can extend your unit’s life by following best practices. This includes running cold water during use, avoiding hard or fibrous foods, and never pouring grease down the drain. Regular cleaning, such as grinding ice cubes, also helps maintain the components. A unit that is frequently jammed or misused will fail much more quickly. Rust and corrosion are the main enemies of a disposal.
When your unit starts to show signs of old age, repair may not be the best option. Frequent clogs, persistent leaks, or a motor that is losing power are all signs it is time for a replacement. Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain can help you select a new, durable model. We provide professional installation that is backed by our long term warranties. This ensures your new unit gets a great start for a long and healthy service life.
Whether a broken disposal is an emergency depends on the symptom. If the unit is simply humming or will not turn on, it is an inconvenience but not an emergency. You can simply avoid using that side of the sink until a plumber can arrive. You should not let this issue go for too long, but it does not require a 2 AM service call. You can schedule a repair for the next business day.
However, some symptoms do qualify as an emergency. If the disposal is leaking water, this is an urgent problem. An active leak can cause significant water damage to your cabinet, floor, and subfloor. It can also create an electrical hazard. If your disposal has caused a major drain backup that is flooding your sink, that is also an emergency. This means your kitchen drain is completely blocked.
Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain is ready for these situations. We offer 24/7 emergency service for homeowners in Broken Arrow and surrounding areas. We never charge extra for weekend or emergency calls. If you have an active leak or a major backup, call us immediately. We will respond quickly to protect your home from damage and restore your plumbing.
