Our hot water tank went down this morning and we were at a loss. I called Sargent's plumbing and Andrew Sargent took my call. He had Jeffrey Sargent come to our house in a very short matter of time. Jeffrey installed a new hot water tank and you could tell that he really takes pride in his workmanship. Totally satisfied with the quick response and a job well done. Follow up, I had a slight drain problem from the install but Sargent's plumbing responded immediately and took care of it. Great company, with great service.

We’ve used Sargent’s Plumbing twice and both times they were awesome! The first time was last Christmas Eve afternoon. Our half bath toilet was leaking. They were able to schedule us that day. Hayden arrived on time, assessed the situation, fixed it quickly and didn’t leave a mess. Just recently, the same toilet developed another problem. Called Sargent’s. Jeffrey arrived a little early (not a problem), listened to my concerns and made some adjustments hoping to correct the problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t. He told me it might not; that the toilet should be replaced. Doing that in a couple of days. Quoted a reasonable price for this replacement. He and Andrew have been very patient in answering my questions. Highly recommend!

We have had issues with our sewer backing up into the house for a long time. I was worried when I first called because Sargent’s charges by the hour but wait.. They helped unclog the drain so fast it will make your head spin! Super nice, honest, and much more than fair to say the least. Use Sargent’s once and you won’t let anyone else help with your plumbing. Our issue was a little flap that broke off to keep sewage from back flowing into the home. (Ironic isn’t it that this is exactly what this valve caused several times?!). We couldn’t be happier!

24/7 EMERGENCY Water Heater Repair

Having no hot water is a major plumbing emergency, especially in winter. A water heater that is actively leaking is also an emergency. Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain offers 24/7 emergency water heater repair. Homeowners in Broken Arrow and nearby cities trust our rapid response. We never charge extra fees for homeowner emergency or weekend calls.

Water Heater Repair in Broken Arrow, OK

Gas water heaters have several unique parts that can fail. The most common problem is a pilot light that will not stay lit. This is often caused by a dirty or failed thermocouple. The thermocouple is a small safety sensor. We can clean or replace it quickly. Another issue is a bad gas control valve. This is the “brains” of the heater. It controls the gas flow and the temperature. We can test and replace these valves. We are certified to work on gas appliances safely.

Electric water heaters have their own common failure points. The most frequent problem is a burned out heating element. Your heater has two elements, an upper and a lower. If one fails, you may have lukewarm water or no hot water at all. We can test these elements and replace them. Another common issue is a bad thermostat. Each element has its own thermostat. If a thermostat fails, it will not send power to the element. We carry these common parts on our trucks.

A leaking water heater is a serious problem. The source of the leak determines the fix. If the leak is from a water connection, that is a simple repair. We can tighten the fitting or apply new sealant. If the leak is from the T&P valve, it is a warning. This means your pressure is too high. This is often a sign of a failed expansion tank. We can replace the tank and the valve. However, if the tank itself is leaking, that is a fatal problem. This means the tank has rusted. It cannot be repaired.

We are an honest, locally owned company. We will always give you a straightforward recommendation. The choice to repair or replace depends on two factors: cost and age. If your water heater is only five years old, a repair is a great choice. A new thermostat is an affordable fix. However, if your heater is 12 years old and the tank is leaking, a repair is impossible. We will recommend a new installation. If the repair cost is more than half the price of a new unit, we will also recommend replacement.

“No hot water” is the number one call we get. The cause depends on your heater type. For a gas heater, it is almost always the pilot light assembly. The thermocouple is bad. The pilot is dirty. Or the gas valve has failed. For an electric heater, it is an electrical issue. A heating element is burned out. A thermostat has failed. Or, the high limit switch has been tripped. Our plumbers are experts at diagnosing the problem. We will trace the issue to its source.

Another common complaint is “not enough hot water.” This is different from “no hot water.” In a gas heater, this can be caused by a bad gas valve. It can also be a sign of a massive sediment buildup. The sediment is insulating the water from the flame. In an electric heater, this is the classic sign of a failed lower element. The top element is working. It is heating a small amount of water. But the bottom element is broken. This means you only get a few gallons of hot water.

When you call Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain, you get 5 star service. We offer 24/7 emergency repairs for homeowners. We never charge extra for night or weekend calls. Our plumbers are licensed and insured. They will arrive in a fully stocked truck. We can fix most water heater problems in a single visit. We provide long term warranties on our repairs. We also offer 10% discounts for veterans, teachers, and seniors. We are dedicated to our community.

What Makes a Great Water Heater Repair Service

A great water heater repair service is fast, honest, and prepared. The company must offer 24/7 emergency service. The plumber arrives on time. They listen to your description of the problem. They will diagnose the issue accurately. They will not just start replacing parts. A great plumber carries common parts on their truck. This includes thermocouples and heating elements. They will give you an honest quote. They will tell you if a replacement is a smarter choice.

Most Common Water Heater Repair Questions

When the hot water goes out, you need answers fast. Homeowners are often worried about the cost and the cause. Here are the most common questions we answer.

A leaking water heater is a very serious problem. The source of the leak will determine if it is a simple repair or a total replacement. The best case scenario is a leak from a plumbing connection. The pipe on top of the heater may be loose. This is a simple fix. We can tighten it or apply new pipe sealant.

A more serious leak is from the T&P valve. This is the temperature and pressure relief valve. If this is leaking, it is a warning. It means the pressure in your tank is too high. This is often caused by a failed expansion tank. We can replace the valve and the tank. This is a critical safety repair.

The worst case scenario is a leak from the tank itself. If you see water dripping from the bottom of the heater, it means the steel tank has rusted. This is a fatal flaw. The tank cannot be patched or repaired. The only solution is a full water heater replacement. We will be honest with you and show you the source of the leak.

The pilot light is the small, constant flame in a gas water heater. It is what ignites the main burner. If this flame goes out, you will have no hot water. The most common reason for this is a failed thermocouple. The thermocouple is a small, copper safety sensor. It sits in the pilot flame. Its job is to sense the heat. If it does not, it shuts off the gas.

If the thermocouple is dirty or broken, it will shut the gas off. This is true even if the pilot is lit. This is a safety feature, but it is a common failure point. We can easily clean or replace the thermocouple. This is a very common and affordable repair.

Another cause could be a draft. A strong draft in your garage could blow the pilot out. This may be a sign of a problem with your vent. A bad gas control valve can also be the culprit. Our licensed plumbers can safely diagnose the problem. We will find the exact reason and fix it.

Water that is only lukewarm, or water that gets cold very fast, is a common complaint. The cause depends on your heater type. For an electric water heater, this is the classic symptom of a failed lower heating element. Your heater has two elements. The top one heats a small amount of water. The bottom one heats the whole tank. If the bottom one is broken, you will only get a few gallons of hot water. We can easily test and replace this element.

For a gas water heater, the cause is often a bad gas valve. It may not be opening fully. This means the burner is not producing enough flame. It cannot heat the water properly. Another common cause is a thick layer of sediment. This sediment at the bottom of the tank is insulating the water. The burner cannot heat the water effectively.

A third, less common cause is a “crossed connection.” This can happen if a faucet was installed incorrectly. It can cause cold water to mix into your hot water pipes. Our plumbers can diagnose the exact reason. We will find out why your water is not hot enough.

A popping or “rumbling” noise from your water heater is a very common sign. This noise is almost always caused by sediment buildup. Broken Arrow has very hard water. This water is full of minerals. These minerals settle at the bottom of your water heater tank. This forms a thick, hard layer of scale.

The noise you hear is water that is trapped under this layer of sediment. The gas burner or electric element heats this trapped water. It flashes to steam. This creates a small “pop” or “bang.” This is the sound of the steam escaping the sediment.

This is a serious problem. It is not just an annoying sound. This process is very violent. It is damaging the inside of your tank. It will cause the tank to fail years early. It also wastes a lot of energy. The heater is struggling to heat water through a layer of rock. The solution is to have the tank flushed. We can perform this as part of our inspection.

If your hot water has a “rotten egg” or sulfur smell, the problem is in your water heater. This is a very common problem. The smell is caused by a chemical reaction. It involves bacteria in the water and your water heater’s anode rod. The anode rod is typically made of magnesium or aluminum. The reaction between these three things creates hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas is what smells so bad.

This problem is not dangerous, but it is very unpleasant. The solution is twofold. First, we must flush and sanitize the tank. This will kill the bacteria that is currently in the tank. Second, we must replace the anode rod.

We will replace your magnesium rod with an “aluminum zinc” anode rod. This special alloy rod will not cause the same chemical reaction. This will stop the smell from coming back. This is a simple, effective repair. It will restore your water to a clean, odorless state.

The cost of a water heater repair depends entirely on what part has failed. A repair is almost always much cheaper than a full replacement. A simple, common repair, like replacing a thermocouple, is very affordable. Replacing an electric heating element or thermostat is also a cost effective repair.

A more complex repair, like replacing a gas control valve, will cost more. This is a more expensive part. Our plumbers will always give you a straightforward, upfront quote before we begin. We provide free estimates for our repairs. We will diagnose the problem. We will then show you the exact cost to fix it.

We are an honest company. We will also weigh the cost of the repair against the age of your heater. If your heater is 12 years old, it may not be worth it to put a $400 part into it. We will give you both options: the price to repair and the price to replace. We will let you make the best, most informed decision.

We strongly, strongly advise against this. A water heater is not a DIY project. It is a dangerous appliance. If you have a gas water heater, you are working with a live gas line. An improper connection can cause a gas leak. This can lead to a fire or an explosion. You are also working with the vent system. An improper vent can leak deadly carbon monoxide into your home.

An electric water heater is also dangerous. You are working with high voltage electricity. A 240 volt circuit can be lethal. You are mixing this high voltage with water. This is an extremely high risk of electrocution.

This is a job for a licensed, insured professional. Our plumbers are trained to do this work safely. We follow all codes. We have the right tools. We will test our work. Please, do not risk your home or your life to save a few dollars.

If your water heater is leaking badly, you need to shut it down. There are two or three steps. First, you must shut off the fuel. For a gas heater, look for the gas control valve. This is the box on the front of the heater. Turn the dial from “On” to “OFF”. For an electric heater, go to your home’s main breaker panel. Find the large, “double” breaker. It will be labeled “Water Heater.” Flip this breaker to the “OFF” position.

Second, you must shut off the water. Look for the pipes on top of your heater. Find the cold water inlet pipe. There will be a valve on this pipe. It is usually a lever or a round handle. Turn this valve clockwise until it stops. This will shut off the water.

This will stop the flood. Once the unit is off and the water is off, call us. Our 24/7 emergency service is ready. We will walk you through these steps over the phone. We will then send a plumber out immediately.
