Our hot water tank went down this morning and we were at a loss. I called Sargent's plumbing and Andrew Sargent took my call. He had Jeffrey Sargent come to our house in a very short matter of time. Jeffrey installed a new hot water tank and you could tell that he really takes pride in his workmanship. Totally satisfied with the quick response and a job well done. Follow up, I had a slight drain problem from the install but Sargent's plumbing responded immediately and took care of it. Great company, with great service.

We’ve used Sargent’s Plumbing twice and both times they were awesome! The first time was last Christmas Eve afternoon. Our half bath toilet was leaking. They were able to schedule us that day. Hayden arrived on time, assessed the situation, fixed it quickly and didn’t leave a mess. Just recently, the same toilet developed another problem. Called Sargent’s. Jeffrey arrived a little early (not a problem), listened to my concerns and made some adjustments hoping to correct the problem. Unfortunately, it didn’t. He told me it might not; that the toilet should be replaced. Doing that in a couple of days. Quoted a reasonable price for this replacement. He and Andrew have been very patient in answering my questions. Highly recommend!

We have had issues with our sewer backing up into the house for a long time. I was worried when I first called because Sargent’s charges by the hour but wait.. They helped unclog the drain so fast it will make your head spin! Super nice, honest, and much more than fair to say the least. Use Sargent’s once and you won’t let anyone else help with your plumbing. Our issue was a little flap that broke off to keep sewage from back flowing into the home. (Ironic isn’t it that this is exactly what this valve caused several times?!). We couldn’t be happier!

Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain offers 24/7 emergency service. Homeowners in Broken Arrow and nearby cities trust our rapid response. We never charge extra fees for homeowner emergency or weekend calls.

Water Heater Inspection in Broken Arrow, OK

A water heater inspection is a professional checkup for your appliance. This is a preventative maintenance service. It is designed to keep your unit running safely and efficiently. During the inspection, our licensed plumber performs a multi point check. We examine the entire unit, from its water connections to its vent system. We look for any signs of wear, corrosion, or leaks. This service is vital for gas water heaters. They have a live flame and vent toxic fumes. An inspection ensures your family is safe. It is the best way to extend your unit’s life.

Our inspection is comprehensive. For a gas water heater, we start with the burner. We will pull the burner assembly. We clean the burner and the pilot light. We inspect the thermocouple. We also check the gas line for any leaks. We then inspect the vent pipe. We must ensure the vent is clear of obstructions. We also check that it is sloped correctly. A bad vent can leak carbon monoxide into your home. This is a critical safety check.

We then inspect the water side of the system. We check all water connections for drips or corrosion. We look at the tank itself for any signs of rust or leaks. A key part of the inspection is testing the T&P valve. This is the temperature and pressure relief valve. It is a critical safety device. We will test it to make sure it is not seized. A stuck T&P valve can cause a water heater to explode. We also test your water heater expansion tank.

For an electric water heater, the inspection is slightly different. There is no burner or vent. We will focus on the electrical components. We will check the thermostats. We will also check the heating elements. We can test if the elements are working correctly. We will also perform all the same water side checks. We will test the T&P valve. We will check for leaks. We will inspect the expansion tank. Both gas and electric units need this annual service.

The most important part of the inspection is the anode rod check. Inside your steel water heater tank is a sacrificial anode rod. This rod is made of magnesium or aluminum. Its job is to corrode. The corrosive elements in the water will attack this rod, instead of attacking your steel tank. This rod is what stops your tank from rusting out. It is sacrificing itself. During our inspection, we will pull this rod out. We will check its condition. If the rod is gone, your tank is no longer protected.

If the anode rod is mostly eaten away, we will recommend replacing it. This is a simple, affordable service. A new anode rod can add five or ten years to your water heater’s life. This is the single best thing you can to do extend its lifespan. Most homeowners do not even know this part exists. This one service, included in our inspection, can save you from buying a new water heater. This is a perfect example of our honest, 5 star service.

When you hire Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain, you are hiring a dedicated professional. We are a locally owned company built on honesty. We will give you a clear, written report of our findings. We will show you any areas of concern. We will never try to sell you a new water heater you do not need. If a simple repair or anode rod replacement is the answer, we will tell you. We offer 10% discounts for veterans, teachers, and seniors. We are your partners in home maintenance.

Sargent’s Plumbing & Drain is based in Broken Arrow, located at 605 W Oakland Pl, Broken Arrow, OK 74012, proudly serves customers in the Tulsa metro area. In addition to Water Heater Inspection, we offer a full range of plumbing services for homes and businesses. Below is our services list offered by our plumbers:

What Makes a Great Water Heater Inspection Service

A great water heater inspection service is thorough and honest. The plumber checks every safety system. This includes the gas line, the vent pipe, and the T&P relief valve. They must check the anode rod. This is the most important part of the inspection. A great plumber will clean the burner assembly. They will give you a clear, written report. They will be honest. They will recommend a simple repair, not an expensive replacement. The service provides true peace of mind. It ensures your family is safe and your appliance is efficient.

Most Common Water Heater Inspection Questions

Your water heater is a major appliance. A regular inspection is key to its health. Homeowners often have questions about what the service includes and why it is so important. Here are the most common questions we answer in Broken Arrow.

You need a water heater inspection for three main reasons: safety, longevity, and efficiency. Safety is the most important, especially for a gas water heater. A gas unit burns fuel and creates carbon monoxide. An inspection ensures the vent system is working. It checks for gas leaks. It also tests the T&P valve. A failed T&P valve can turn your heater into a bomb. An inspection ensures your family is safe.

The second reason is longevity. The average water heater lasts 8 to 12 years. With an annual inspection, it can last 15 years or more. This is because we check and replace the anode rod. This rod is the only thing stopping your tank from rusting. An inspection is the only way to know if it is working. This service can save you thousands.

The third reason is efficiency. A clean burner works better. A tank with less sediment buildup heats faster. An inspection ensures your unit is running at its peak. This saves you money on your monthly utility bills. This small, annual service is one of the best investments you can make.

An anode rod is the unsung hero of your water heater. It is a long, metal rod that is screwed into the top of your heater. It is made of a softer metal, like magnesium or aluminum. Your water heater tank is made of steel. Water is corrosive. Over time, the water will try to eat, or corrode, the steel tank. This is what causes leaks.

The anode rod prevents this. It is a sacrificial rod. The corrosive elements in the water are more attracted to the softer metal of the anode rod. They will attack and eat the anode rod, instead of the steel tank. The rod is sacrificing itself to save your water heater. This is why it is so important.

Over time, this rod will be completely eaten away. It will be gone. When that happens, the water has nothing left to attack. It will begin to eat your steel tank. Your tank will then rust out in a year or two. An inspection is the only way to know the rod’s condition. We can replace it and save you from a water heater replacement.

You should have your water heater inspected once per year. This is the recommendation from every single water heater manufacturer. An annual inspection is required to keep some warranties valid. This frequency is important. A lot can change in a year. The anode rod can corrode significantly. The T&P valve can seize up.

This is especially true in Broken Arrow. We have very hard water. This hard water is tough on plumbing. It accelerates corrosion. It also leaves sediment buildup in your tank. An annual inspection allows us to flush this sediment. This keeps the heater efficient.

Think of it like an oil change for your car. You do it regularly to prevent a major breakdown. A water heater inspection is the same. It is a small, preventative service. It ensures you are not surprised by a cold shower. It also ensures you are not surprised by a flooded garage.

That pipe is connected to your Temperature and Pressure (T&P) relief valve. This is the most important safety device on your water heater. This valve is designed to do one thing: open. If the temperature or the pressure inside your tank gets dangerously high, this valve will open. It will release the hot water. This prevents the tank from exploding.

If you see this pipe dripping, it is a major warning sign. It is not normal. It means that the pressure in your tank is too high. This is a very common symptom. It almost always means your water heater expansion tank has failed. The expansion tank is waterlogged. It is not absorbing the pressure from thermal expansion.

You need to call a plumber. This is an urgent, though not an emergency, situation. It means your home’s plumbing is under extreme stress. Our plumber can test your expansion tank. We can replace it. This will solve the problem. If you ignore this dripping, your T&P valve will eventually fail.

A water hammer is a loud bang or thud in your pipes. You usually hear it when a valve closes quickly. This happens when your washing machine, dishwasher, or a faucet shuts off. The sound is a hydraulic shockwave. The water was moving fast. It was stopped suddenly. This shockwave is banging your pipes against your home’s framing.

This is more than just an annoying sound. This shockwave is very destructive. It can break pipe fittings. It can cause leaks inside your walls. It is a sign that your plumbing system has a problem.

The most common cause of water hammer is a failed expansion tank. Your water heater’s expansion tank is designed to be a shock absorber. When it fails, it becomes waterlogged. It can no longer absorb any pressure. This includes the shockwaves from water hammer. If you hear this sound, call us for an inspection. We can test your expansion tank.

Yes, a water heater can absolutely explode. This is not a myth. It is a rare, but catastrophic, event. It is why a water heater inspection is so critical. An explosion happens when two safety systems fail at the same time. The first system is your thermostat. If the thermostat gets stuck, it will not turn the burner off. The water will just keep heating. It will get hotter and hotter.

The water will eventually get above 212 degrees. It will become superheated steam. This creates an enormous, uncontrollable amount of pressure. This is where the second safety system comes in. The T&P relief valve is supposed to open. It should release this pressure.

But if the T&P valve is old, corroded, and seized, it will not open. The pressure will build. The steel tank will not be able to hold it. The tank will rupture. This is not a leak; it is an explosion. It has the force of a bomb. It can destroy a house. An annual inspection tests this T&P valve. It is a vital safety check.

Flushing a water heater is part of our routine maintenance. Over time, minerals and sediment from the water will settle at the bottom of your tank. This is especially true with our hard water. This layer of sediment creates two problems. First, it acts as an insulator. It sits between the gas burner and the water. This forces your heater to run longer. It wastes a lot of energy.

Second, this sediment is baking on the bottom of the tank. This can cause the tank to overheat. It creates hot spots. This will damage the tank’s lining. It will cause the tank to fail years before it should. For an electric heater, this sediment will burn out the lower heating element.

Flushing is the process of removing this sediment. We will hook a hose to the drain valve at the bottom. We will open the valve and flush the sediment out. This is a key part of our annual inspection. It keeps your heater running efficiently. It also extends its lifespan.

A homeowner can, and should, do a basic visual inspection. You should look at your water heater. Check for any obvious water on the floor. Look for corrosion on the pipe fittings. If you have a gas heater, you should have a carbon monoxide detector in the room. This is a critical safety step.

However, a homeowner cannot perform a professional inspection. You do not have the tools or training. You cannot test the gas pressure. You cannot safely test the T&P valve. An improper test can cause it to leak. Most importantly, you cannot check the anode rod. This requires a special socket. It requires the strength to break the rod free.

This is a job for a licensed plumber. Our plumbers are trained to spot small signs of failure. We know what to look for. An annual, professional inspection is the best way to keep your home safe. It is a small price for true peace of mind.
